Prepare collection instructions

Give the custodian a clear checklist and a delivery method.

Saving or downloading adds the request to your local tracker as Prepared. To change instructions after that, use New custodian request; tracked instruction files stay unchanged.

Custodian and request

A reference code can be used instead of a full name. This label appears in the instruction file and collection report.

1. Sources to collect

Select all sources for this custodian. Each service gets its own guide and progress under the same request. Gmail and Drive share a Takeout guide.

2. Export settings for the custodian

The custodian sets these options in the service, then confirms the checklist. Select the requested categories and dates below. The custodian receives these exact selections.

3. How files should be delivered

Plain text only. Keep passwords, access tokens, evidence, and confidential case details out of these instructions. Send private upload invitations separately.

Use these instructions

  1. Requestor: download the instruction file and send it to the custodian through your usual approved channel.
  2. Custodian: click Load instructions from requestor in the popup, choose the JSON file, review the custodian label and settings, then click Use these instructions.
  3. Open the extension popup and click Start prepared request. Open Collections and history to continue each service.

Saving or loading a plan never changes a collection already in progress. This page does not create exports, send messages, or transfer evidence.
